Beyoncé closed out her final London performance of the Cowboy Carter Tour on Monday (June 17) with a heartfelt tribute to Paul McCartney and a nod to his daughter, designer Stella McCartney, while performing The Beatles’ civil rights-era anthem “Blackbird.”

The Grammy-winning artist delivered the track to a packed crowd at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, then took to Instagram to express her gratitude.

“Thank you, Sir Paul McCartney, for writing one of the best songs ever made. Every time I sing it, I feel so honored. And it is a full circle moment to wear your beautiful daughter’s design,” she wrote, referencing the custom Stella McCartney outfit she wore on stage.

The moment capped off Beyoncé’s sixth and final London date, where she also thanked the city for its energy and support.

“Thank you, London, for creating unforgettable memories for me and my family. Holla at ‘ya when I come on tour again!” she added.

The singer recently reimagined the 1968 Beatles classic on her album Cowboy Carter, retitling it “Blackbiird” and featuring a lineup of Black female country singers, including Brittney Spencer and Reyna Roberts.

The original song, written by McCartney, was inspired by the American Civil Rights Movement. McCartney praised Beyoncé’s version in a public statement, calling it “magnificent.”

He added, “I think Beyoncé has done a fab version and would urge anyone who has not heard it yet to check it out. You are going to love it.”

The Cowboy Carter album, released earlier this year, has sparked widespread conversation for its genre-blending approach and spotlight on Black country artists.
