Brandy and Monica are hitting the road together for the first time while finally putting to rest years of rumors about their relationship.
Brandy and Monica are finally turning the page on decades of rumors and rivalry as they gear up for their first-ever co-headlining trek, The Boy Is Mine Tour.
The R&B icons discussed the long-awaited tour during a sit-down with Gayle King on CBS Mornings, where they also addressed the years of speculation about their relationship.
“They were trying to get us to do a tour since ’98,” Brandy revealed. “It just finally felt like the right time. It was a dream come true.”
The tour announcement follows renewed buzz around their 1998 hit “The Boy Is Mine,” thanks to their cameo in Ariana Grande’s music video of the same name and a Grammy nomination for the remix.
But Brandy and Monica made it clear that this tour is about more than nostalgia.
“There was a lot of confusion and conflict, and there was a lot of people around,” Monica explained, reflecting on the origins of their rumored feud. Brandy added, “The song didn’t help. We were fighting over a boy.” Monica jumped in with a laugh, “We don’t even like the same type of boy…there could never have been a boy.”
Both singers admitted the tension grew over time, but they’ve since worked through it by shutting out outside noise.
“It did turn into something,” Monica said, explaining they eventually shut out the opinions of the “peanut gallery” and began communicating directly.
Now, they’re calling their renewed partnership a “musical marriage.” Monica said, “We created the communication and the relationship to do it.”
The tour will feature special guests Kelly Rowland, Muni Long and 2025 American Idol winner Jamal Roberts.
The Boy Is Mine Tour kicks off Wednesday (October 16) and runs through Saturday (December 7) with 24 stops in major cities across the country.
