Elon Musk unveiled his new political venture, the “America Party” on X just days after Donald Trump signed the “Big Beautiful Bill” into law, reigniting a public clash between the two former allies over spending and power.
Musk revealed the party’s launch following a poll on his platform where 65% of 1.2 million users voted in favor of a new political option.
“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” Musk wrote.
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO said the new party was born out of frustration with what he described as a broken system dominated by waste and corruption.
“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste and graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,” he posted. “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
One way to execute on this would be to laser-focus on just 2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts.
Given the razor-thin legislative margins, that would be enough to serve as the deciding vote on contentious laws, ensuring that they serve the true will of the people.

Musk outlined a tactical approach for the party’s initial push into the political arena, suggesting it could focus on a handful of key races to wield influence.
“One way to execute on this would be to laser-focus on just 2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts,” he wrote. “Given the razor-thin legislative margins, that would be enough to serve as the deciding vote on contentious laws, ensuring they serve the true will of the people.”
The billionaire hinted that The America Party could make its electoral debut during the 2026 midterm elections.
The billionaire entrepreneur, who once led Trump’s now-defunct Department of Government Efficiency, has broken ranks with the former president over the “Big Beautiful Bill,” its ballooning deficit and cuts to green energy.
Musk’s political ambitions come after a short-lived alliance with Donald Trump, to whose 2024 campaign Musk reportedly contributed $277 million of his own funds.
However, their relationship quickly deteriorated following Trump’s return to office, though neither has publicly detailed the fallout.
Trump warned that Musk’s companies could face consequences.
Donald Trump has floated the idea of cutting off federal contracts to Musk’s companies, including Tesla and SpaceX, according to multiple reports.
“We might have to put DOGE on Elon,” Donald Trump said, referencing the agency Musk once ran. “You know what DOGE is. DOGE is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon.”
He also dismissed Musk’s political ambitions, saying, “I’m not worried. I have the Republican Party. He’s crazy. He has Trump derangement syndrome.”
The America Party has yet to register with the Federal Election Commission, but Musk said it will target a handful of Senate and House races to shift control in Congress.
The move has rattled GOP insiders, who are now reportedly exploring ways to block candidates backed by Musk.
The feud has already caused market jitters, with Tesla’s stock experiencing volatility amid the political fallout.
As of June 2024, the America Party remains unofficial, but its presence is already reshaping the conversation ahead of the next election cycle.
