Real Bleeda’s arrest for a 2024 murder triggered a police threat investigation after someone allegedly connected to him vowed to kill officers unless he was freed.

Real Bleeda became the center of a police security alert in Baton Rouge after someone allegedly linked to him threatened to kill officers unless the rapper was released from jail.

The Baton Rouge Police Department confirmed it is investigating the threat, which surfaced shortly after Real Bleeda, whose real name is David Catherine, was arrested for the 2024 murder of Teressa Calligan, a respected community educator.

Authorities have not identified the person who made the threat but said it was severe enough to prompt heightened safety measures for officers.

Calligan, dean of coding at the Walls Project’s Futures Fund, was killed on September 15.

Investigators say she was an unintended victim caught in a gang-related shooting. Real Bleeda, a documented member of the Bleedas gang, was taken into custody on June 10.

His arrest followed months of legal trouble, including a May 19 incident where he was filmed allegedly waving a gun during a confrontation with suspected rivals outside Pecanland Mall in Monroe.

That video, which circulated widely on social media, helped police track him down. Two other suspects have also been charged in Calligan’s killing.

Roger Parker, who was previously indicted for the drive-by murder of 8-year-old Diellon Daniels, was booked for first-degree murder.

Robert Lewis, 19, was arrested this week while already in custody at East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on unrelated charges.

Lewis has a lengthy criminal history, including prior arrests for murder, illegal weapons possession, aggravated flight, criminal damage to property and witness intimidation.

Real Bleeda is scheduled for a bond review hearing on Wednesday (July 17) and a motion hearing on Monday (August 12).
